Xiaomi is working on a back-tap gesture feature in MIUI 12. First spotted by XDA, the feature will let you double tap or triple tap at the back of your phone to initiate some actions.

Embedded inside MIUI 12’s latest Beta builds, the feature could let you customize the results of your back taps. Back tap gestures will enable you to do different things like taking a screenshot, turning on the torch, swiping down the control center or notification shade and also launching the camera.

Back Tap gestures are still under early development and the publication didn’t get it to work yet after activation.

So we should expect to see more actions when available to every MIUI 12 user.

Xiaomi joins Google and Apple who have been working on back tap gestures for their respective devices for some time. However, Apple already shipped it as part of iOS 14.

Apple’s back tap gestures on iOS 14 let you do almost anything you want on your iPhone. From taking a screenshot, launching certain apps, activating shortcuts – which opens a whole new level of possible automation –, locking your iPhone and more.

Google’s back tap feature which is also still under development also lets you do a bunch of things on your Pixel phone.
