Big Gmail Redesign Incoming Integrating Meet, Chat and Rooms

Google is working on a big Gmail redesign. In leaked slides meant to be presented at ongoing Cloud Next ’20: OnAir event, which lasts for nine weeks, we have an early view of the upcoming Gmail face.

The Gmail face lift is here to make the app “your new home for work” says a statement on one of the slides. So what’s new?

Gmail Redesign

The first change in this roadmap is the integration of Google Meet in Gmail. Google Meet is already available for a number of iOS users and widely to everyone on the web.

On top of that new “Meet” tab, Gmail will also add two new tabs: one for Google Chat and another for “Rooms.”

Google Chat – a Hangouts replacement – is where you have casual conversations with your friends, while “Rooms” is targeted at teams and projects. Google already rolled out Chats for G-Suite users in June.

Here’s how the new Gmail will look like;

Google will still nudge you to view neglected chats and room updates, just like what they do for emails they feel are important.

Apart from the new tabs in Gmail, Google has a bigger plan to ensure you do all your things inside the app.

On the web, Gmail will soon allow you to open a Google doc file, have a chat open, and, at the same time, have an ongoing video call via Meet in a floating window by leveraging picture-in-picture functionality.
