[Update: July 22, 2020] Google Meet is now available inside Gmail for Android. It’s available in Gmail’s latest version and will be available for some starting today. Google says it will take up to two weeks to be available for everyone.

[Original: July 14, 2020] Mid-June, Google announced it’s adding a dedicated tab for its video calling product, Meet, inside Gmail on both Android and iOS. A few weeks later, Google has now announced that the feature is now rolling out to iOS users.

“We’re starting to roll out the feature today to iOS, meaning users can join secure video meetings directly from a dedicated Meet tab in the Gmail mobile app on iOS,” said Google in a blog post.

Meet on Gmail will be “ON” by default. So, if you’re satisfied with your other video calling platform and don’t want to use Google Meet, you can turn the feature off inside the apps setting.  The toggle is available under “Meet” and can be turned off by deselecting the “Show the Meet tab for video calling” option.

iOS users should expect to see the feature anytime from today through to the next two weeks due to the gradual rollout timeline. So if you spot a Gmail update, that may be “it.”

For Android users, Google says Meet will be available soon, but no specific timeline has been provided yet.

Google Meet has come along way since the beginning of the year amid the video calling industry boom. It has rolled out a ton of features and is now available for everyone to use. Not to mention, it’s now finding its way to the ubiquitous precious email service, Gmail – on mobile and the web.
