Movie streaming giant Netflix has rolled out a slew of new parental control features giving parents more power in limiting which content their kids can have access to on the platform.

The first feature introduced is the ability to protect individual profiles by using a passcode so that kids cannot be able to access unsuitable content on other profiles. Besides, parents can also be able to filter out select titles of movies or TV shows from their kids’ profile – by heading over to “account settings” then “profile and parental controls.”

Both of these are part of Netflix’s feature improvement to let parents take more control of what their kids watch. It comes a time when streaming has become part of the daily activities as more people stay at home. Consequently, the streaming industry is booming and has even reached a point where streaming quality is capped to prevent the services from being overwhelmed.

Recent reports from Apptopia and Braze has revealed a 30.7% increase in streaming sessions in March alone. According to the report, Netflix led in the number of downloads against other streaming apps in Q1, followed by YouTube, Amazon Prime Video and YouTube Kids. Among the top 4 downloaded streaming apps globally, YouTube Kids led in the number of time spent inside in the app.

That means parents are letting kids have more screen time on YouTube and Netflix probably eyes a pie on this.
