Twitter now Allows you to Turn on 2FA without Providing a Phone Number

Twitter has in the past admitted that they have used phone numbers meant for two-factor authentications in advertising. 2FA is good, but not SMS-based two-factor authentication.

Using mobile phone numbers to secure accounts is not safe at all especially in the age where sim swap attacks have become rampant. Even Twitter’s own CEO, Jack Dorsey was seemingly hacked by way of SIM swap.

Safaricom knows this, and that is why they have stepped up their game to make the public aware of their AI-powered solution aimed at combatting SIM swap attacks. You should turn it on by the way if you haven’t already.

Twitter for a long time has depended on phone numbers for 2FA but at last, the company has decided to step up its game. Twitter’s Safety Team announced recently on the platform that you can now set 2FA without providing your phone number.

In the past, Twitter supported 2FA using third-party apps like Google Authenticator and Authy or even physical keys, but still, a phone number had to be provided first.
