TikTok’s Parent Company Announces its first Smartphone in China

It seems smartphone making is becoming cheaper since everyone is doing it these days. First, TCL, the popular Chinese Smart TV brand, made its new smartphone going by the name PLEX. TCL Plex came in two different colorful models (Obsidian Black and Opal White). TCL Plex was praised for its “next-level display and AI triple camera with TCL’s NXTVISION visual technology.”

That phone looked good on paper; you couldn’t tell it was the first time TCL is making a smartphone.

The new player in the smartphone industry is TikTok’s parent company Bytedance. This comes months after Bytedance acquired Smartisan, a struggling smartphone company in China, taking over some of its patents and even employees.

THE Smartisan Nut Pro 3 is the name of the device which was launched in China at a starting price of 2,899 yuan (around $412).

Spec wise, the Smartisan Nut Pro 3 is another “flagship” device you can consider. It features Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 855 Plus, a quad-camera array on the rear with a primary 48-megapixel sensor, a 13-megapixel ultra-wide lens, an 8-megapixel telephoto camera, and a 5-megapixel macro camera.

The battery is a 4,000mAh. On the front is a 20MP selfie camera and an in-display fingerprint sensor like most flagships. This phone comes with a 6.39-inch FHD+ AMOLED display, which is the best you can get in the market so far.

Memory wise, the Nut Pro 3 runs on either 8GB or 12GB of RAM paired with 128GB or 256GB of internal storage. Just as you would expect, the phone comes with TikTok pre-installed.

If this sounds like a good spec-ed smartphone to you, it is unfortunate that the phone will not be selling out of China for the time being. In the future, there is a chance the company might decide to go global.
