Xiaomi is more of a household name when it comes to smartphone announcements. So far, in 2019 alone, the company has launched tones of new smartphones in different markets.

In 2020 however, Xiaomi is prepared to launch more than ten 5G powered smartphones to take on 5G assimilation that is going on around the world – mostly in developed countries.

The company plans to launch several devices with 5G and not just in the premium segment, but in the midrange category, as well. Xiaomi is also wary of growing fears of 4G phones not being competitive in 2020.

Several smartphone companies are already preparing to launch 5G devices come next year. Nokia, Xiaomi, and Huawei have previously stated they plan to launch affordable 5G devices next year.

Speaking at the World Internet Conference in Wuzhen, China, Xiaomi’s CEO Lei Jun urged telcos to fasten their 5G expansion.

“People in the industry fear that next year 4G models won’t sell, this is a step you have no choice but to take,” Lei Jun said according to Reuters. “So we hope that operators can speed up their expansion of 5G base stations.”

Xiaomi has recently tipped a successor to this year’s Redmi K20 Pro, supporting 5G. This year alone, the Chinese tech company has launched two 5G devices – Mi MIX 3 5G and Mi 9 Pro 5G.
