Huawei’s latest smartphone, the Y9 Prime 2019 is up on pre-order in Kenya through e-commerce platform, Jumia. You can get this phone for Ksh 25,000 and those who pre-order it get a free Bluetooth headphone. The Huawei Y9 Prime 2019 is not to be confused with the Y9 2019 from last year, this new one is the Prime version.

The one unique feature of the Huawei Y9 Prime 2019 is the pop-up selfie camera. This is not the only smartphone with a pop-up selfie, there is also the OPPO F11 Pro that is available for a much higher price of Ksh 39,000. With the pop-up selfie, we do not have a notch at the very top, something people will appreciate.

With such a mechanical selfie camera, you may be wondering about its longevity. Huawei says that pop-up mechanism has been thoroughly tested for 100,000 pop-ups and retractions without any damage. With the notch gone, the company has moved the other sensors and components such as the receiver earpiece and ambient light sensor to the top and bottom of the screen respectively, effectively removing bezels and notches.

Speaking of the launch, Huawei Mobile Country President, Steven Li said, “Kenya is growing tremendously when it comes to technology as smartphones have become a necessity. Smartphone users continue to focus on specifications along with brand perception and quality. This factor has contributed to Huawei improving the smartphone experience through investing in higher storage, larger screen size, and better camera resolution among others.”

“We are glad to be contributing the ever growing smartphone usage in Kenya therefore we would like to reassure our consumers that all devices in the market will continue using google services as well as Facebook. As part of our plans we are offering all consumers buying the Huawei Y9 Prime 2019 a three month screen damage protection services from the date of purchase which is valued at Kshs 8500.”
