Google Drive offline mode has been a feature on the mobile app for long. The offline mode makes the files in Google drive online storage available for viewing, even if you don’t have an internet connection.

Apparently on PC that feature wasn’t available yet. Google yesterday in their microblogging platform stated offline mode is also coming to the web app. Offline-viewing is highly applicable while traveling or in areas that face poor network connectivity.

Google Drive for web has also been added with a new offline preview mode that will enable users to identify which files are available offline. To access this features Right click on a file, e.g., Docs, Sheets, or Slide and you’ll see the ‘available offline’ option among the menu. With offline access enabled, Google drive will “automatically and intelligently” make some files available offline too based on “how recently you accessed them.”

However, offline viewing will only be available as a beta feature before rolling out to all G-Suite and regular Gmail users later. The feature is only available to G-Suite users in the beta program but some users have it already available, for other users, it will roll out soon. To have offline file viewing, you’ll first need to ensure offline access enabled in Google Drive.
