The Kenyan smartphone scene keeps getting bigger by the day and the latest smartphone to make its way to the country is the Xiaomi Redmi Go. This is Xiaomi’s first Android Go smartphone that we have known was going to launch in the country soon but we did not have an exact date.

Since the Xiaomi Redmi Go is and Android Go smartphone, it comes with a tweaked version of Android that should run smoothly on devices with low end hardware. Android Go smartphones tend to be affordable (below Ksh 10,000) and are perfect for a market such as Kenya and that is what the Redmi Go is.

The Xiaomi Redmi Go is currently available through Jumia for as low as Ksh 8,499. This is a reasonable price for its specifications and makes it the cheapest Xiaomi smartphone in Kenya. It is not the cheapest Android Go smartphone in Kenya as that crown is taken by the Safaricom Neon Kicka 4.

Android Oreo (Go edition) experience is made up of three key components according to Google:

    • Operating System: Performance and storage improvements to the OS with data management features and security benefits built-in.
    • Google Apps: A new set of Google apps, designed to be lighter and relevant to the unique needs of people who are coming online for the first time.
    • Google Play Store: A tuned version of the Google Play Store that allows you to download any app, but also highlights the apps designed to work best on your device.

These are some of the things that are meant to improve the user experience of those buying Android Go smartphones such as the Xiaomi Redmi Go.
