It seems like Ksh 24,000 is a sweet spot for most smartphone manufacturers. We have been seeing some good devices within this price launch in Kenya the last few weeks and the latest one is the Nokia 5.1 Plus. This Nokia 5.1 Plus joins the Huawei Y9 2019 and the recently announced Tecno Camon 11 Pro.

The Nokia 5.1 Plus is available for Ksh 24,000 in select retail stores in the country and is one of the few smartphones from HMD Global we have seen launch in Kenya the last couple of months. Some of the others include the Nokia 6.1 Plus and the Nokia 7.1.

“With the Nokia 5.1 Plus we wanted to bring exciting gaming and entertainment experiences closer to a wider group of fans. Our vision was to deliver performance, AI imaging and a contemporary design in an accessible device, so that more people can play mobile games, binge-watch their favourite series and capture great content. The Nokia 5.1 Plus is for our tech-savvy fans who love finding the best price-performance combination.” Said Gopher Ogembo, Business Manager, East Africa, HMD Global.

The Nokia 5.1 Plus comes with advanced AI built in for better face recognition and real-time photo enhancement. It has advanced imaging that allows you to capture studio style shots with depth-sensing imaging and selectable ‘bokeh’ blur, as well as portrait lighting.

As expected, the Nokia 5.1 Plus is an Android One smartphone and this means that you are getting near stock Android out of the box. This means less bloatware and a smoother experience with guaranteed timely updates. The company says this phone is scheduled to get three years of monthly security patches and two years of guaranteed OS updates. The phone comes with Android Oreo but should be getting Android Pie very soon.
