Safaricom Home Fibre is now available in more that 213,000 homes countrywide. The company announced this today and revealed that the service is available in Nairobi, Nakuru, Mombasa, Kisumu, Eldoret, Thika, Bungoma, Kitale, Nyeri and Nanyuki among other towns.

About 12 months ago, Safaricom Home Fibre was available in close to 100,000 homes. The company has been aggressively expanding its coverage in areas not covered by other home internet services. This is probably the reason why it was able to add over 100,000 new customers in just 12 months, a small but significant number.

In announcing connection to over 213,000 homes, Safaricom has also announced new Home Fibre packages that will see mobile voice, mobile data, SMS and Home Fibre condensed into one package. With this, Safaricom Home Fibre customers will enjoy data connectivity, calls and SMS with a single fee.

Below are the new Safaricom Home Packages.

BRONZE Plus SILVER Plus GOLD Plus DIAMOND Plus
    Bandwidth 5 Mbps 10 Mbps 20 mbps 40 mbps
Mobile Data 2 GB 4 GB 4 GB 4 GB
    Mobile X-net Minutes 100 200 200 200
Mobile SMS Unlimited* Unlimited* Unlimited* Unlimited*
Monthly Cost   KES. 3,400 KES. 4,999 KES. 6,699 KES. 12,499

If you are keen, you have probably noticed that the rates are higher than what Safaricom has been charging ever since it rolled out Fibre to the Home services. This is because of the new Finance Bill 2018 that saw mobile tariffs in the country revised. It is still early to tell how these new rates will affect uptake of Safaricom Home Fibre services but we will know with time.

    Home Insurance

Safaricom has also announced a new partnership with Jubilee Insurance to provide Home Fibre customers with a preferential home insurance cover. The company was clear to point out that unlike other insurance policies, customers will not be required to compile an inventory of their household goods to benefit from the policy.

Below are the packages for those interested.

Home Contents (HC)  High Risk Items-(Phones, Laptops, Jewellery etc)
Plan Sum Insured Sum Insured Monthly Premium
    Hero KES. 250,000 KES. 75,000 KES. 250

    Fortified KES. 1,000,000 KES. 300,000 KES. 1,350

To enjoy the Home Fibre Plus packages, Safaricom Home Fibre customers can dial *400# , select “Manage Your Subscription” and then select “Home Fibre Plus” option and pick their preferred package.

Equally, Home Fibre customers can pick their preferred home insurance plans by dialling *400# and select the “Home Insurance” option under “Manage your subscriptions”.
