Do you have some extra Ksh 30,000 to spend on a smartphone? If you do, HMD Global wants you to spend it on the new Nokia 7.1. The company has announced the availability of this phone in the country today. The phone comes into the country a few weeks after the company announced the availability of the Nokia 6.1 Plus (X6) which is available for Ksh 31,990.

It seems like HMD brings a new Nokia smartphone in Kenya every single month. We have seen so many smartphones over the past 5 months with the 7.1 being the latest.

The Nokia 7.1 is all about the cameras. It comes with two cameras at the back, 12MP and 5MP units with Zeiss Optics. If you know about the history of Nokia smartphones, then you know a few things about Zeiss Optics as it was a key feature on the old Nokia Lumia phones and it is good to see it’s coming back. The selfies camera has a 8MP sensor that should not disappoint.

Speaking during the launch, Mark Misumi, HMD Business Manager East Africa said, “We know a lot of our fans in Kenya enjoy creating videos and watching content on their smartphones. That’s why it was important for us to bring both ZEISS optics and PureDisplay technology together in a versatile device that offers a superior content experience, regardless of whether you’re taking photos for your social media or watching the latest series on your favorite streaming service.”

In a press statement, HMD Global said:

“The Nokia 7.1 is the first smartphone to come with PureDisplay screen technology for stunning HDR10 cinematic quality entertainment inside and out. With YouTube, Netflix and Amazon Prime now supporting HDR content, take your viewing experience to another level with higher contrast (1,000,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio) and great clarity, revealing the detail in both light and dark areas with stunning vibrant colours.”

At Ksh 30,000, the Nokia 7.1 is competing with devices such as the OPPO F9, Huawei P20 Lite, Xiaomi Pocophone just to name a few. This is going to be a tough competition for the listed phones as they are all really good in different areas. In the end, the customers have good phones t choose from that will not disappoint.
