When it comes to Android smartphones, it looks like manufacturers are using the RAM capacity to convince customers that their phones are the best. At the moment, we have 6GB and even 8GB RAM on some smartphones out there. A few years ago, having a smartphone with 3GB of RAM was what many people wanted but now we are looking at smartphones with twice the RAM. Most of the times the people buying the smartphones with 8GB of RAM may not take advantage of all that RAM and may end up using a fraction of that.

OPPO’s current flagship, the OPPO Find X, comes with 8GB of RAM which is sufficient for most situations. This is what we expect from a flagship smartphone in 2018 and will be the case in 2019 and even 2020.

Side Note: The OPPO Find X has an issue with Instagram. The app crashes from time to time and this has always been the case with some OPPO phones and may not necessarily be about the phone but the OS in general.

Back to OPPO, the company thinks that some of you out there may want bigger RAM on the Find X. The company is working on a version of the Find X that will come with 10GB of RAM as seen on the official website of Chinese regulator, TENAA. A listing on this website means that the phone is already out there and we should see it official announcement by the company very soon.

All the other specifications of this 10GB variant are the same as the Find X that we already have on the market. You can even get this phone in Kenya for Ksh 100,000.

The question people will be asking will be, do we need 10GB of RAM on a smartphone at this point? The best answer is no but this will not stop some of these manufacturers from doing so. This is a way for the manufacturers (OPPO in this case) to show the market that they can go above and beyond what other players are offering. As for the benefit of such a move, I am not sure if there are any at this point except for the bragging rights.

Below are some of the other key specifications of the OPPO Find X.
