Samsung is expanding its smartphone portfolio in Kenya and its latest addition is the Galaxy J8 (2018). This new smartphone is available in the country for Ksh 34,000 and joins four other Galaxy J devices the company unveiled a couple of weeks back.

Charles Kimari, the Head of Mobile Division at Samsung Electronics noted that the firm would continue sharing the amazing technology on the flagship models with consumers within the mid-tier category.

“Over the years, the performance of the flagship devices in our market has been impressive as the technology space continues to open up. And as our research team continues to develop market-leading technology, we strive to spread these innovations across all our market segments. This has already been the case with the Galaxy A6+, J6, J7 Duo and J4 devices we introduced recently,” he added.

The Samsung Galaxy J8 (2018) is here to compete with devices such as the OPPO F7 and the Nokia 6.1. Powering the device is a 3,500mAh battery, and for a seamless experience allowing smooth multitasking, it comes with a Snapdragon 450 octa-core 1.8GHz processor and 3GB of RAM. With the Infinity Display, the device supports an aspect ratio of 18:5:9. The Galaxy J8 also comes with a fingerprint reader at the back and face recognition features offering added security.

Comparing this to a device such as the OPPO F7, it is difficult to recommend it even though it is good. OPPO just has that edge that they have perfected over the years. Samsung has a lot of catching up to do and let’s see if the J8 will be the device that helps it do this.

Below are some of the key specifications of the Samsung Galaxy J8 (2018).

    Display Size: 6.0 inches with a resolution of 720 x 1480 pixels

    Processor: 1.6GHz Octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 450

    RAM: 4 GB

Storage Space: 64 GB, can be expanded to 256GB using a microSD card

    GPU: Adreno 506

    Android Version: Android 8.0 Oreo

Main Camera: Dual 16MP + 5MP with LED flash

    Selfie Camera: 16MP

    Battery: 3500 mAh battery

The Galaxy J8 is available at Samsung Experience Stores, Safaricom shops and authorised dealers across the country in black, purple or lavender colour options.
