When it comes to buying a new smartphone, not everyone is able or is willing to spend so much money on one device. Some people are just looking for a basic smartphone that can do the simple tasks without any complicated or advanced features. From time to time, I get questions about the cheapest smartphone that someone can buy. If you are one such person, this post will list down five smartphones under Ksh 5,000 that you can get in Kenya right now.

Most of the smartphones listed here are available on Jumia and I have included a link to each one.

    iBRIT ALPHA

The first smartphone worth checking out is the iBRIT ALPHA. iBRIT is not a well-known company and claims to be a British company but I did not find any evidence supporting that. That aside, the iBRIT Alpha is currently available for Ksh 4,699. It has some decent specifications but one thing that I have seen people say about it is that it tends to heat up when running demanding applications.

    Ibrit Alpha price in kenya

Below are some of its key specifications of the iBRIT ALPHA:

    Display Size: 5.0 inches with a resolution of 480 X 854 Pixels

    Processor: 1.3GHz Quad-core MediaTek MT6580

    RAM: 1 GB

Storage Space: 8 GB, can be expanded to 32GB using a microSD card

    GPU: Mali-400 MP

    Android Version: Android 7.0 Nougat

Main Camera: 8MP with dual-LED flash

    Selfie Camera: 5MP

    Battery: 2000 mAh battery

You can get the iBRIT ALPHA from Jumia here.

    Oukitel C9

Another smartphone that you can get under Ksh 5,000 is the Oukitel C9.

    Oukitel c9 Price in kenya

Oukitel is a Chinese company that is known for using very big batteries on its smartphones. The unfortunate thig is we are not getting a crazy huge battery on the Oukitel C9. Even with that said, the Ksh 4,999 price tag puts the device on my list.

Below is a look at the key specifications of the Oukitel C9.

    Display Size: 5.0 inches with a resolution of 480 X 854 Pixels

    Processor: 1.3GHz Quad-core MediaTek MT6580

    RAM: 1 GB

Storage Space: 8 GB, can be expanded to 32GB using a microSD card

    GPU: Mali-400 MP2

    Android Version: Android 7.0 Nougat

    Main Camera: 8MP

    Selfie Camera: 2MP

    Battery: 2000 mAh battery

You can get the Oukitel from Jumia here.

    Viwa i7

If you want a phone that looks good and is below Ksh 5,000, the Viwa i7 is my best suggestion. The phone does not have the same specs as the two discussed above but still stands its ground. It has green accents on the sides and camera section giving it a different and appealing look that we are not used to seeing on devices within this price range.

    Viwa I7 price in kenya

Below are some of the key Viwa i7 specifications:

    Display Size: 4.0 inches with a resolution of 480 X 800 Pixels

    Processor: 1.2GHz Quad-core Spreadtrum SC7731 processor

    RAM: 512MB

Storage Space: 8 GB, can be expanded to 32GB using a microSD card

    GPU: Mali-400

    Android Version: Android 7.0 Nougat

    Main Camera: 2MP

    Selfie Camera: 0.3MP

    Battery: 1500 mAh battery

You can get the Viwa i7 for Ksh 3,200 from Jumia by clicking here.

    HISENSE U962

You have probably heard about Hisense but not for its smartphones. The company is known for its affordable TVs but it also has some affordable smartphones and the Hisense U962 is one of them. The company has a couple of other smartphones but those are above Ksh 5,000.

    Hisense U962-2

Below are the Hisense U962 specifications:

    Display Size: 5.0 inches with a resolution of 480 X 854 Pixels

    Processor: 1.2GHz Quad-core Spreadtrum SC7731G

    RAM: 1GB

Storage Space: 8 GB, can be expanded to 32GB using a microSD card

    GPU: Mali-400 MP2

    Android Version: Android 6.0 Marshmallow

    Main Camera: 5MP

    Selfie Camera: 2MP

    Battery: 2000 mAh battery

If you are interested in the Hisense U962, you can get it from Jumia for Kshs 4,699.

    X-TIGI V10

The last device in this list is the X-TIGI V10. I have this device here because of its battery. It has the biggest battery on this list and I believe this is a plus for a user who does not want to charge his/her phone every single day.

    XTIGI V10

Below are the key specifications of the X-Tigi V10:

    Display Size: 5.0 inches with a resolution of 480 X 854 Pixels

    Processor: 1.3GHz Quad-core processor

    RAM: 512MB

Storage Space: 8 GB, can be expanded to 32GB using a microSD card

    GPU: Mali-400

    Android Version: Android 6.0 Marshmallow

    Main Camera: 5MP

    Selfie Camera: 2MP

    Battery: 2500 mAh battery

You can get the X-Tigi V10 from Jumia for Ksh 4,999.
