Tecno Mobile has officially unveiled its first smartphone with an almost bezel-less display in Kenya. We saw this trend with a handful of manufacturers last years and Tecno is finally joining the club with the official unveiling of the Camon CM (See More) in Kenya. The phone is available exclusively on Jumia for Ksh 17,000 but will be available through offline retailers next week.

The Tecno Camo CM has the 18:9 aspect ratio that gives you much taller smartphone than we are normally used to. This was a very big trend last year and will be bigger this year. With this aspect ratio, you can have a device with a very big display (say 6 inch) but do not feel or look that big. With this, we will be getting more screen real estate to consume content without the devices feeling bulky.

Back to the Camon CM, it is the first device from the company with this aspect ratio and surprisingly comes way earlier than when we were expecting the next device in the Camon series. The Camon series is made up of camera centric devices that are always unveiled at around May so the unveiling of the CM at this time is a surprise.

The Tecno Camon CM comes with a 5.7-inch display that takes up 83% of the phone’s front panel. It has very thin bezels, a nice addition to the Tecno family. We do not see that many smartphones within this price range with an 18:9 aspect ratio and thin bezels so Tecno can use this to stand out from competitors.

Below are some of the other key specifications of the Tecno Camon CM.

    Display

    5.7 inches

    Platform

    Android OS, v7.0 (Nougat)

    Processor

    1.3GHz MediaTek 6737H (quad core)

    Storage

    16GB, 2 GB RAM

    Camera

13MP at the back, 13MP front

    Extra

    Fingerprint scanner, VoLTE support

    Battery

    3000mAh Li-Ion battery

As you can see, this is not a complete upgrade from the Camon CX that we saw last year. The main addition that it introduces to consumers is the new aspect ratio. This is one of the reasons why we are seeing this device early in the year and not the usual April-May slot.

The Camon CM is the first device from the company in 2018 and I will be getting a review unit to share with you my thought on it right here and on our YouTube Channel.
