Twitter is making some design changes through its different platforms. The company has been rolling out these changes the last couple of days but most users started noticing the changes yesterday. This is a huge redesign but you will still be able to recognize and use Twitter as you have done before.

Twitter is rolling out these features and tweaks to the Android and iOS apps as well as Twitter Lite and TweetDeck. This updated design has just started rolling out to the public so you may not see it right away, the company is pushing out the update gradually. I use Twitter’s beta app so I have had these changes since Monday and to be honest I like what Twitter has done. The design appears cleaner and is easier to use.

Some people hate this new design but to be honest I think it is more modern and better than what we had before. If you have seen the new design, you can tell me what you think of it. For those who are yet to see the changes, hold on tight as Twitter does not expect a complete roll out across all versions for a number of days or even weeks. If you want to be among the first people to see what Twitter has been working on, you can sign up to be part of the beta program. To do this on Android, go to the Play Store and look for the Twitter app, scroll down till you find the option to become a beta tester.

    So, What’s New?

So, you may be asking, what’s new? Well, if you are on iOS, the biggest change has to do with the new navigation sidebar that is now on the left side of the display. From here, you will be able to find the settings and privacy tabs as well as the additional accounts section and the shortcuts to your profile. With this, Twitter is decreasing the number of tabs at the main screen and thus reducing clutter. Those on Android may not relate to this as they have had this design for the last year or so.

Twitter is also implementing new intuitive icons such as the new reply icon instead of the arrow. The new icon for replies is a speech bubble that the company will be very useful for newcomers who had previously thought the reply icon was a back icon.

The retweets, replies and favourite counts now update in real time. Even with this, you may or may not see the real time count depending on the type of device you are using, the company says that the new feature isn’t available on Twitter Lite and the web versions at the moment.

For those on iOS, you will also be a new functionality that will open links you tap on Safari viewer.
