Two of Motorola’s latest smartphones, the Moto G5 and G5 Plus, will be available in Kenya as from next week through Safaricom according to Android Kenya. These devices will be available in Safaricom shops alongside other devices from the company including the entry level Moto C devices and the high-end Moto Z series. The Moto G and G Plus are mid-range devices that the company has had plans to bring to the country for quite some time now.

When launching the Moto Z in the country, Lenovo East Africa regional manager Shikha Monga said that the Moto G5 and G5 Plus would be available in the country in May. Well, this never happened in May and all we have had from the company in the country are the Moto Z, Moto Z Play and Moto G4 Plus smartphones that have been available since March. This will all change this month as the Moto G5 and G5 Plus will be coming to Kenya as early as next week.

The Moto G5 and G5 Plus smartphones were announced at Mobile World Congress back in February and only became available in various markets in April so we are not doing so bad here in Kenya. Their prices have not been revealed but we will know about that very soon.

Moto G5 and Moto G5 Plus

As expected, the Moto G5 is the smallest of the two with a 5 inch Full HD resolution. It is powered by the Snapdragon 430 processor paired with either 2 or 3GB of RAM and either 16 or 32GB of internal storage space. The phone comes with Android 7.1 Nougat out of the box.

For the cameras, it has a 13MP main one and a 5MP selfie one. Providing all the juice is a 2800 mAh battery.

The Moto G5 Plus on the other hand has a 5.2 Full HD display. This unit is powered by the Snapdragon 625 processor paired with either 2 or 4GB of RAM and 32 or 64GB of space. In Kenya, I expect to only see the 2GB RAM and 16GB model given that that is what most manufacturers who have different variants tend to do.

Just like the G5, the G5 Plus will come with Android 7.1 Nougat out of the box. For the camera, it will come with a 12MP unit at the back and a 5MP selfie one. The battery here is slightly bigger sitting at 3000 mAh.
