Photo and video sharing is the new trend across all social networking sites. This means that every social networking site that wants to keep users engaged has to make it easy for them to share photos and videos with their friends/followers.

Twitter is one such social networking site and it is implementing some changes in regards to the videos shared on its site. From now on, users will be able to share videos that are between 30 and 140 seconds long. 140 seconds is a whole 2 minutes and 20 seconds so users will be able to share more meaningful videos with their followers.

When announcing these changes, Twitter went ahead to reveal that video tweets have gone up by more than 50% since January this year. This is probably the reason why the company is allowing users to upload much longer videos.

This news by Twitter comes less than a month after Facebook announced that users will soon be able to Live stream through its site for 24 hours nonstop, probably Twitter wants to counter that move in its own way.

    Vine Gets Longer Videos Too

Twitter also announced that users will be able to upload longer Vine videos. Twitter owns Vine so it makes sense for the company to roll out the update to the two platforms at the same time. From today, users will be able to upload 140 second Vine videos which is up from the 6 seconds limit. This feature is still in beta and is only available to a few creators at the moment.

For Twitter, allowing users to upload longer Vine and Twitter videos means that users spend more time using its platforms and this will go a long way in attracting advertisers. At the moment, users can only upload longer videos using Twitter for Android and iOS apps as well as desktop users. Twitter for Mac and Windows users will be able to do so very soon.
