Infinix are working on an exciting new category of products. Information reaching us cites that they could be working on entering the Virtual Reality Market, as exciting as that is we are still to see an implementation of this. What we already have proof of, is Infinix’s approach to wearables. **Geeks, ahoy**

Infinix XBand XB01 is their first wearable, a beautifully designed smart band that I found to be very comfortable and quite impressive with its build quality. The smart band is basically a fitness tracker that shows you the number of steps you have taken and calories burnt as a result. It also communicates with your smartphone through Bluetooth to give you notifications directly on the band’s screen.

We did not manage to get any specs list from Infinix officials but seeing that the XBand XB01 looks identical to detail with Huawei’s TalkBand B2 – even the brand inscriptions are done at the exact same points, I would say they might have quite the same specs.

So what’s good about the XBand XB01?

    • It shows you notifications without you having to constantly check your phone
    • Uses Bluetooth to connect to the phone as opposed to Wi-Fi or cellular data
    • As much as the design is a copy/paste from a competitor’s product, it is a premium design and one could easily overlook the crime behind it
    • The band doubles up as a Bluetooth earpiece that can be used to answer calls similar to Huawei’s TalkBand B2.

    What’s not so good?

    • The design is not original. At all! Why would Infinix not try a little creativity like they once did with the Zero 2?
    • It is not that smart. You cannot interact with the notifications you get on the band at all.
    • The practical usage of the smart band is limited to athletics or at least gymnasts. I would only use it for the notifications, so that I avoid unnecessarily checking my phone.
    • The screen is tiny. Well it’s a band and not a smartwatch, but still.

Below is a short video of my interaction with the XBand XB01. To see more images of the XBand, follow us on Instagram.

As for the price and availability of the XBand, we are yet to receive news from Infinix. Infinix is however running a competition to for a chance to win yourself teh XBand XB01, check that out here.
