As other countries are talking about rolling out 5G in their countries, here in Kenya you can only get 4G connectivity through Safaricom. The other industry players are still stuck on 3G. Even as manufacturers are trying to bring their 4G enabled smartphones into the country, 4G coverage is still very low.

If Airtel is your network provider, you may be happy to know that you will not remain on 3G for long. According to Techweez Airtel will be ready to implement 4G LTE in Kenya by the end of this year. Airtel has been upgrading its network for a while as it prepares to roll out 4G.

The company even completed its network upgrade in Nairobi last year and said that this was to make it ready for 4G.

The upgrading process will be completed this year and it seems like Airtel is confident that it will roll out 4G in the country after all.  This will make Airtel the second country in the country to roll out 4G LTE and this will put it ahead of Orange Kenya.

Where Airtel is at the moment

At the moment, most of Airtel customers are on 3G. According to Techweez, a whopping 70% of all Airtel customers use 3G while 20% of them are on 2G. This is not that bad and it will be up to Airtel to try and convert the 3G users to jump over to 4G as it rolls out these services into the country.
