The Microsoft Lumia 650 is one of the Windows 10 smartphones we have been waiting for. We have been hearing about this smartphone for a while now and some people even suggested that it will be the last Lumia smartphone, this made it even more interesting to me. We were expecting the Lumia 650 anytime this month and Microsoft has not disappointed as it has officially unveiled it.

The Microsoft Lumia 650 is targeting the budget conscious consumers as you will see from its specs in a bit. It joins the high end Lumia 950/Lumia 950XL and the low end Lumia 550. With this lineup, we should be expecting another mid-range device, probably the Lumia 850, from Microsoft anytime soon. This will be the only way to complete its smartphone lineup for 2016.

    Lumia 650 Specifications

As for the display, the Lumia 650 comes with a 5 inch AMOLED one with a resolution of 720p. Microsoft says that this is the most beautiful screen it has ever made. I haven’t seen the display live but Microsoft has always made some beautiful displays even for its entry level devices so I believe them when they say that.

Under the display sits the 1.3 GHz quad-core Snapdragon 212 with 1GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage space expandable via a microSD card. As expected, it comes with Windows 10 but unfortunately no continuum.  From this combination, you can clearly see that this smartphone is meant for the budget conscious buyers.

For the camera, the Lumia 650 has an 8MP unit at the back with a 5MP one in front. Microsoft is known for making good cameras so am sure these two will not disappoint. This phone supports LTE Cat 4 that can get you speeds of 150Mbps down and 50Mbps up.

Providing all the power is a 2,000 mAh removable battery. The phone will be available in select markets as from February 18 and will be retailing at $199 (approximately Ksh 20,000).
