Facebook is preparing to launch a professional version of its social networking site in the next few months. The company confirmed this a few days ago through Julien Codorniou, director of global platform partnerships. Facebook has been testing this service for almost a year now and is ready to roll it out to the public.

The product is currently in beta version and can only be accessed by those invited to do so. It is already being used by over 300 companies according to Facebook and will be open to all companies when it is officially launched in the next few months.

This new service is similar to what the social networking site is offering at the moment but is geared towards more of workplace collaboration.

Speaking to Reuters, Julien Codorniou said, “I would say 95 percent of what we developed for Facebook is also adopted for Facebook at Work.”

Even though it is similar to what you already have, Facebook at work will allow for different special profiles that are different from what users already have. This will be very useful for those people who do not want their bosses to know everything about their personal lives.

When launched, the service will be free but there will be premium plans that will charge a few dollars for those who want premium services such analytics and customer support.

At this point, it looks like Facebook at work will be launched in the US so am not sure if international users will have access to it.
