For some reason, Sony does not excite people that much these days. Am not one of those people and still think Sony is one of the best and most promising manufacturers out there. The company has some of the best devices out there in terms of design and performance but their high prices always makes most people overlook them.

Sony is constantly trying to change the game and that is what the company hopes to do with the second generation of Sony’s smart fitness wearable, the Sony SmartBand 2. Sony was one of the first big companies to dive into the wearables market and hopes that the SmartBand 2 can help cement its presence.

The Sony SmartBand 2 comes with a colorful LEDs for notifications and has an inbuilt heart-rate monitor. The heart-rate monitor combined with the accelerometer can perfectly measure your pulse and gauge your fitness and mood.

The Sony SmartBand 2 can also know when you are asleep and thus measure your sleeping cycles and how well you sleep from time to time. Using the information collected, this SmartBand can also wake you up at the right time. It is IP68 certified meaning that it can be submerged to up to 3 meters under water for 30 minutes and it’s also dust resistant.

The Sony SmartBand 2 can work with your smartphone as long as they are not more than 10 meters apart. It is compatible with Android 4.4 KitKat or higher and iOS 8.2 or higher. This means that Sony is not forcing you to buy an Xperia smartphone just to use this SmartBand.

Sony says that the battery of the SmartBand 2 can last for up to two full days. This fitness band will be available in black, white, pink and Indigo as from September 2015 in over 60 countries. It will be retailing at $132 (approximately Ksh 14,000).
