As the world has its eyes on Kenyan developers’ weeks after the GES Summit, Orange is giving you a chance to shine even more through its API Challenge. The orange API Challenge is open to startups and developers from Africa, Middle East, Asia and France. This means that as a Kenyan developer, you will be able to integrate a selection of Orange APIs and create valuable products.

This developer challenge started two weeks ago on August 3rd 2015 and involves up to 13 countries and French companies that operate in Africa and the Middle East. Developers are free to submit their ideas till September 15th 2015 when submissions will be closed.

This is the largest international developer challenge that involves local developers and allows them to showcase their talent and stand a chance of winning amazing prizes.

The aim of the challenge

This developer challenge allows developers to

– Discover Orange Open Web Services

– Enrich their service/product/application thanks to our Open Web Services (APIs: SMS, USSD and Billing)

– Compete with their service/product/application to win prizes in their country and/or a big international prize among countries winners

– Obtain the possibility to develop a partnership with Orange in order to distribute and promote their services in Orange’s AMEA footprint

– The most appreciated initiative may receive financial support provided by an international player in startup ecosystem in Africa and Middle-East : Oasis 500

Participation rules

If you are interested in this challenge, you are most welcome and you will need to use at least one of Orange’s APIs. These include SMS, USSD and Direct Operator billing APIs. Once you decide which API to use, you will submit and a panel of Judges will vet it. Try to have your best idea out there as only 10 of the best ideas from Kenya will be given a chance to develop their applications using the APIs.

Out of the 10 applications, the 3 best applications will be selected to win the cash prizes as indicated below.

Prizes to be won

The following are the prizes to be won by the 3 best applications.

1st prize-Ksh.350,000+ Orange Klif smartphone.

1st Runners up- Ksh.100,000+ Orange Klif smartphone.

2nd Runners up- Ksh.50,000+ Orange Klif smartphone.

The winner from Kenya will represent the country later this year in Cairo, Egypt and compete with 12 other participants from the other countries for a cash prize of 10,000 euros.
