At the beginning of every month, Google releases the Android distribution numbers showing the most popular Android versions and help developers come up with apps for the most popular versions. This month was not different as collected data for the first 7 days of July to come up with the figures.

In this month’s figures, Android Jelly Bean has a combined market share of 56.5%. This when broken down shows the distribution figures of the different iterations of Jelly Bean, Jelly Bean 4.1 has 27.8% market share, Jelly Bean 4.2 has 19.7% market share and Jelly Bean 4.3 has 9% market share.

Following Jelly Bean closely is Android KitKat that jumped from 13.6% last month to 17.9% this month. This is quite a big improvement and is mostly a result of the new Android devices announced recently.

Android 2.3 Gingerbread follows closely in 3rd position with 13.5% market share. Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0 came in at number 4 with 11.4% market share while Froyo 2.2 had an almost negligible presence with 0.7% market share.

Android L is still not available for the public and that is why it failed to make it to the list.
