Blackberry Passport Is A New Phablet Set To Confuse Us

BlackBerry has had a difficult time the last few years with increased competition from Samsung, Apple and Nokia. You would expect this competition to shape the company positively and challenge then to create Smartphones that really appeal to the masses. This is quite the opposite for BlackBerry. The company has been making bad decisions and even though they have good Smartphones such as the Z3 and the Q20 they have still not reclaimed their title.

The company seems to be diving into to the unknown as they have just announced the BlackBerry Passport as it was presenting its latest financial results. The passport has a 4.5-inch touch sensitive screen with a resolution of 1440 x 1440 pixels. This is square and not rectangle as we are used to on most Smartphones.

The passport will be available officially in September and this was just an unveiling meant to show the world what the company is working on.

The Passport is 3.18 inches in length meaning that is bigger than the already massive Galaxy Note 3 that is just 2.79 inches.

Aside from the screen, the passport has a QWERTY hardware keyboard that does not make sense and looks out of place. We all know that hardcore BlackBerry fans love the physical keyboards but to be honest this is just too much.

All we can do now is to wait till September and see what BlackBerry makes of this.
