If the leaked screenshots are true (most of the time they are), Microsoft may just unveil Windows Phone 8.1 with more goodies than we had earlier expected. Cortana is one of these features and is expected to be a personal digital assistant similar to Siri on Apple or Google Now on Android.
Cortana will replace the in built Bing search functionality on Windows Phone 8.1. It will have animated blue circles instead of a female character as seen on the leaked screenshot. Cortana will also allow user to set what names or nicknames they want to be addressed by.
The “Notebook” is a key feature for Cortana that lets you store all your personal information for Cortana to take advantage of and give you the best results. Some of the information that Cortana can access include location data, behaviours, personal information, reminders, and contact information.
Cortana is highly customizable and allows you to limit how much private data is accessible to Microsoft’s servers preventing any unnecessary sharing.
