We had earlier told you about the planned Facebook event and the company did not disappoint as they were right on time to host their event. During the launch, Facebook’s CEO Mark zuckerberg unveiled the “Facebook Home.”
According to Facebook, Home is essentially a family of Facebook apps that you can install and these apps will help transform your device into a Facebook phone. The homescreen and the lockscreen will be replaced with an app called Coverfeed and this app will provide you with updates on what your friends are up to on Facebook even without unlocking your phone or launching an app. This new setup essentially makes it very easy for users to switch between apps easily.
Facebook also unveiled “chatheads” which will help integrate messaging on “Facebook Home.” When you get an SMS or Facebook message, a round icon will appear at the top of any app that you may be using and you can tap it to go to the chat window.
Each app has a badge or notification that alerts you whenever something new happens. Notifications are sorted by friend instead of by app. During the launch, Zuckerberg said, “You don’t need to fork Android” to do what Facebook is doing and for Facebook, it all starts with the homescreen.
This new feature will be available for selected devices as from April 12 and users will be able to install it through Google Play Store, and if you have Facebook’s Android app installed it will automatically prompt you to download the app. For tablet users, you will have to wait a little bit longer to get this new feature.
