Digital Realty has opened its 6.4-megawatt Nairobi Two Data Center (NBO2). The new facility is located alongside Nairobi One (NBO1).
The new NBO2 also marks the transition from iColo to the Digital Realty brand in Kenya and Mozambique. This brings the local data centre operator into Digital Realty’s region.
According to Digital Realty, NBO2 is designed to support the growing demand for cloud services, enterprise digitisation, data sovereignty and always-on digital applications across East Africa.
Customers connecting through the Nairobi campus can access more than 100 networks, two internet exchange points and a satellite teleport.
The satellite teleport adds another connectivity option, particularly for locations where terrestrial infrastructure may be limited. This can help businesses build more resilient and geographically distributed connectivity strategies.
Wanja Muriithi, Country General Manager, Kenya, said the opening of NBO2 and iColo’s transition to Digital Realty represent the continued growth of Kenya’s digital economy.

Digital Realty said its expanded Nairobi capacity will allow customers to keep critical data and applications sovereign while maintaining connections to global platforms, partners and markets.
