British International Investment (BII) and Africa50 have signed a new Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at accelerating infrastructure investment across Africa through increased public and private sector financing.
The deal was announced at the Infra for Africa Forum 2026 in Tanzania and will deepen collaboration between the two organisations as they look to bridge the continent’s widening infrastructure financing gap.

Under the partnership, BII and Africa50 will explore opportunities for co-financing, co-investment and capital mobilisation to support infrastructure projects across key sectors, including energy, transport, water, digital infrastructure and social infrastructure.
As part of the agreement, BII has also committed $20 million to the Africa50 Infrastructure Acceleration Fund, bringing the fund to a fourth close of approximately $330 million.
The fund has attracted support from several major institutions, including the African Development Bank, the International Finance Corporation and more than 20 African institutional investors.
Commenting on the partnership, BII CEO Leslie Maasdorp said, “Africa’s infrastructure financing gap remains one of the biggest barriers to sustainable growth and development across the continent. Our partnership with Africa50 and investment in the Africa50 Infrastructure Acceleration Fund reflect our commitment to mobilising more capital into the infrastructure Africa needs to support businesses, create jobs and improve lives.”
Africa50 CEO Alain Ebobissé added, “Africa’s infrastructure needs cannot be met by public capital alone. Delivering infrastructure at the speed and scale the continent requires depends on mobilising long-term private and institutional capital through strong partnerships. BII’s commitment to the Africa50 Infrastructure Acceleration Fund reflects our shared ambition to scale infrastructure investment, strengthen project delivery, and accelerate sustainable economic development across Africa.”
