Nutanix has launched a new Model Context Protocol (MCP) server for its Nutanix Cloud Platform (NCP), enabling enterprises to use AI tools to automate cloud operations while maintaining existing security and access controls.
The open-source MCP server implements the Model Context Protocol and connects AI agents and developer tools to NCP through the Nutanix Prism v4 API.
The launch is aimed at helping IT teams manage increasingly complex hybrid and multicloud environments using AI. Tools such as GitHub Copilot, Claude Code and Cursor can translate natural-language requests into infrastructure actions through the MCP server.
Nutanix said the approach provides a secure layer between AI tools and enterprise infrastructure, ensuring that AI-driven actions remain subject to existing governance and authorisation policies.
“By creating a secure gateway between AI tools and our platform, we are giving customers the confidence to safely use AI to operate and govern their hybrid multicloud environments,” said Thomas Cornely, Executive Vice President, Product Management at Nutanix.
The MCP server relies on the Nutanix Prism v4 API Gateway for execution, governance and security. It supports fine-grained role-based access controls, API throttling and metering, comprehensive auditing, and asynchronous task management.
This allows IT teams to use AI assistants for activities such as analysing system health, identifying diagnostics and preparing automation workflows while retaining human oversight over critical operations.
For developers, the MCP server can also generate platform-ready scripts in languages and formats including Python, Go, Java, JavaScript, PowerShell, curl and REST/JSON.
Nutanix said the MCP server is available as open-source software and can be used with customers’ own AI agents.
