Carrefour has partnered with KCB Bank and Mastercard to launch the Carrefour Prepaid Card in Kenya.

The prepaid card allows shoppers to set grocery budgets, track spending and make sure that money budgeted for household essentials is spent on essentials. The move is designed to help customers better control their day-to-day spending without sacrificing the convenience of card payments.

Christophe Orcet, Regional Director – East Africa at Majid Al Futtaim Retail, said the new offering is part of Carrefour’s broader commitment to making everyday shopping simpler and more rewarding.

“The Carrefour Prepaid card allows customers to plan grocery spending, stay in control and manage household budgets with confidence, while retaining the ease of card payments,” he said.

The card is particularly suited for customers supporting family members remotely, managing shared household budgets or looking for an alternative to cash. It can be reloaded through Mastercard Gateway using any bank card from any country. This makes it easier for users to send funds for grocery purchases across borders.

According to KCB Bank Kenya, the collaboration expands access to convenient digital payment solutions while reducing reliance on cash.

“Through this collaboration with Mastercard, we are offering a payment solution that is easy to use, supported by 24/7 customer service, and available across all Carrefour stores,” said Jane Isiaho, Director of Retail Banking at KCB Bank Kenya.

Adding to this, Shehryar Ali, Senior Vice President and Country Manager for East Africa and Indian Ocean Islands at Mastercard, said: “

At Mastercard, we are committed to enabling simple, secure and inclusive payment solutions that meet people’s everyday needs. The Carrefour Prepaid card brings together convenience, control and value, helping customers manage their budgets more effectively while enjoying the safety and ease of digital payments.”

Customers can register for the Carrefour Prepaid Card at Carrefour stores through assisted activations or via digital channels.
