Tether has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE) to explore blockchain-powered financial market innovation, digital asset education and the tokenization of securities in Kenya.
A key focus of this partnership will be on investor education through training sessions, workshops and awareness programmes for stockbrokers, retail investors and other market participants to improve their understanding of digital assets and their role in capital markets.
The two organizations will also assess the use of Distributed Ledger Technology (DLT) to support tokenized securities, instant settlement, and fractional ownership of investments. The initiative will also explore the use of Tether’s Hadron platform to enable the issuance and trading of tokenized financial instruments, while streamlining Know Your Customer (KYC) and Anti-Money Laundering (AML) processes within Kenya’s regulatory framework.
Tether CEO Paolo Ardoino said, “The use cases for digital assets are evolving, from crypto into real-life applications and, ultimately, cross-border institutional finance. This is what true freedom means. We’re glad to deepen our collaboration with the Nairobi Securities Exchange to advance practical institutional adoption and technological progress. Our goal is to streamline operations and enable efficient, transparent, accountable, and sustainable processes, while protecting data and privacy.”
NSE Chief Executive Officer Frank Mwiti added, “This MoU is fully aligned with the NSE’s 2025–2029 Strategic Plan, which is anchored on leveraging technology, deepening market participation, and expanding access to investment opportunities for all investors. By collaborating with Tether, we are exploring innovative technologies that have the potential to modernize market infrastructure, enhance operational efficiency, and broaden investor access while maintaining the highest standards of market integrity and regulatory compliance.”
The collaboration could help bring tokenized financial products and blockchain-based market infrastructure to the NSE.
