Airtel Africa’s revenue rose 31.0% to $1.85 billion for the financial year ended June 30, 2026. This was driven by continued growth in mobile services, data usage, and Airtel Money across its markets.
The telecom operator said revenue growth was supported by double-digit constant currency growth across all business segments, with mobile services revenue rising 19.1% and mobile money revenue increasing 25.8%.
In East Africa, revenue grew 14.4% in constant currency and 21.9% in reported currency to $607 million. The region’s performance was supported by a 9.3% increase in its customer base and 5.3% growth in average revenue per user (ARPU). Voice revenue also rose 8.0% in constant currency.
Group CEO Sunil Taldar said the company’s continued investment in customer experience, digital services, and network expansion had accelerated customer growth across all business segments.
“We have started this year with another pleasing performance,” Taldar said. “As we continue to digitise our business, we are streamlining customer journeys, increasing digital adoption and harnessing data and AI to improve service delivery.”
Airtel Africa’s total customer base grew 11.6% to 189 million, while data customers increased 15.5% to 87.3 million. Smartphone penetration reached 51%, helping drive a 56.3% increase in data traffic as average monthly data usage per customer climbed to 10.6GB.
Airtel Money also maintained strong momentum with annualised total processed value (TPV) rose 51.5% to more than $245 billion. Its customer base grew 23.3% to 56.5 million. Airtel also confirmed that London remains its preferred listing venue for Airtel Money in 2026, as it seeks to unlock long-term value from the business.
Profit after tax increased to $198 million, up from $156 million a year earlier, while EBITDA rose 36.6% to $928 million, delivering a margin of 50.1% despite rising energy costs.
During the quarter, Airtel accelerated its network rollout, investing $389 million in capital expenditure, adding more than 920 new sites, and expanding its fibre network to 82,100 kilometres to support growing demand for digital services across Africa.
