At AI Everything GITEX Kenya 2026, Qhala, Amini AI, Angani and iXAfrica Data Centres announced a strategic collaboration to launch Qubit Hub at iXAfrica’s NBOX1 facility.
The initiative aims to create a unified environment where AI research, cloud capabilities, data infrastructure and digital sovereignty can converge. This will position Kenya more firmly as a regional hub for AI and cloud innovation.
Qubit Hub, incubated by Qhala under its QTrust framework, is designed as an African AI research, innovation and development lab. The platform brings together researchers, technologists, data scientists, policymakers and builders focused on developing practical, real-world AI solutions tailored to the continent.
The collaboration brings together a complementary set of capabilities,
- Qhala leads on research, innovation and ecosystem development.
- Amini AI contributes sovereign AI, data and compute infrastructure.
- Angani provides local cloud capacity for testing, deployment, and scaling.
- iXAfrica delivers AI-ready, carrier-neutral data centre infrastructure.
Rather than focusing purely on AI models, the partnership reflects a broader shift in Africa’s AI conversation. This includes trusted data, scalable compute, cloud access, governance frameworks and coordinated ecosystems.
By hosting Qubit Hub at iXAfrica’s infrastructure, the partners aim to bring AI builders closer to the resources they need to move from experimentation to production.
Speaking at the announcement, Qhala CEO Dr. Shikoh Gitau emphasized the broader ambition,
“With this partnership, we are solving for compute, talent and community. iXAfrica is AI-ready, and they are providing the infrastructure we need to ensure we can scale as the continent’s needs grow — which means we can deliver this not just to Kenya, but to researchers across the region.”
