Wingu Africa has launched a new private cloud platform, Wingu Cloud Exchange (WCX), in Ethiopia.
The company is known for its carrier-neutral, Tier III-standard data centres across East Africa and says the new platform is designed to give Ethiopian businesses access to secure, scalable and locally compliant cloud services without relying heavily on international providers.
WCX addresses one of Africa’s biggest cloud adoption challenges: where data is stored and how much it costs to manage it.
By enabling organisations to keep their data within Ethiopia, WCX ensures compliance with local regulations while also reducing latency and improving performance for critical applications.
“WCX is a game-changer for African businesses,” said Demos Kyriacou, Deputy CEO, COO and Co-founder of Wingu Africa.
“We are delivering secure, compliant, and scalable cloud solutions built specifically for local needs.”
The launch of WCX positions Wingu Africa as a regional alternative to global cloud platforms like Microsoft Azure and Amazon Web Services (AWS).
WCX is designed to work alongside these hyperscalers as it enables hybrid cloud setups that let businesses combine local infrastructure with global services.
This is relevant in markets like Ethiopia, where data localisation requirements are tightening and foreign exchange volatility makes dollar-based cloud pricing unpredictable. Latency issues can also impact performance when relying on overseas data centres.
The platform bundles multiple enterprise-grade services into a single ecosystem that includes
- Wingu Compute – scalable virtual machines
- Wingu Kubernetes – container orchestration for modern applications
- Wingu Drive – cloud storage solutions
- Wingu Security – built-in cybersecurity tools
These services allow businesses to build, deploy and manage applications without needing deep in-house infrastructure expertise.
