Huawei, in partnership with the Konza Technopolis Development Authority, has unveiled Kenya’s first Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) set up inside a Digital Hub, powered by AI technology. The launch took place during the Siaya Community Digital Hub opening, held at Bondo Township Primary School Grounds as part of the Siaya Digital Summit 2026, themed “Empowering Siaya’s Future: Digital Connectivity, Skills, Jobs, and Creative Economy for Sustainable Growth.”

The new AI-assisted BPO platform enables trained youth to provide customer service across multiple channels including messaging, web, and phone, serving local businesses, counties and international clients. Twenty local youth have already completed training to handle AI-supported workflows, logging interactions, analyzing cases and optimizing productivity, positioning the hub to deliver services at a globally competitive level.

“When young people are equipped with the right skills, they improve their own livelihoods while uplifting entire communities,” said Ruth Mokaya, Cloud Solutions Engineer at Huawei. She added, “Programs like the Jitume Digital Hubs empower communities, especially those in remote and rural areas, with the digital literacy needed to participate meaningfully in the digital economy.”

H.E. William Kabogo Gitau, Cabinet Secretary for Information, Communications and the Digital Economy, emphasized the importance of making digital opportunities accessible to youth across Kenya:

“The success of Kenya’s digital transformation will ultimately be measured by how widely opportunities are shared. Talent exists everywhere, and our responsibility as government is to ensure that young people, regardless of where they live, have access to the infrastructure, skills, and platforms needed to participate in the digital economy.”

The initiative also included practical ICT skills training for 100 youth through Huawei’s globally recognized Huawei Certified ICT Associate (HCIA) program, covering networking, cabling and infrastructure management.

“Rolling out 100,000 km of fiber is creating jobs for our youth. This partnership at the Siaya Community Digital Hub exemplifies collaborative capacity building at the grassroots, preparing youth for jobs in building, managing, and maintaining infrastructure for the digital economy,” CS Kabogo added.

John Paul Okwiri, CEO of Konza Technopolis Development Authority said,

“Digital hubs play a critical role in nurturing innovation and providing young people with access to infrastructure, mentorship, and collaborative spaces. They are part of a broader ecosystem, including initiatives like Konza Digital Media City, designed to empower creators, developers, and digital professionals with world-class opportunities.”

Olivier Ogawa, one of the 20 youth trained in BPO skills, shared:

“Through the training, I gained practical skills in digital communication and customer support systems that can be applied in the BPO industry and other online work opportunities. These skills give us the confidence to compete for digital jobs and generate income from wherever we are.”

The Siaya Community Digital Hub is part of the government’s Jitume Digital Hubs program, which aims to establish 1,450 hubs nationwide, creating spaces for youth to acquire digital skills, collaborate, and participate in the digital economy.

“With over 75% of Kenya’s population under the age of 35, empowering youth with digital skills has become central to economic transformation. The Siaya Community Digital Hub will serve as a collaborative space where youth can access connectivity, acquire practical digital skills, and explore opportunities in remote work, freelancing, digital content creation, and business process outsourcing,” said Ruth Other, Jitume Digital Hubs official.

The summit concluded with a call for continued collaboration between government, private sector partners, and communities to ensure digital transformation translates into tangible opportunities for young people across Kenya.

“Kenya’s digital future will be built not only in our major cities but in counties across the country where young people are ready to innovate, create, and lead,” CS Kabogo said.
