The Galaxy A-series is one of Samsung’s most popular smartphone lines in Kenya. It offers decent midrange devices that can compete with what is offered by the likes of Tecno, Infinix, OPPO, Xiaomi, etc. I have been using the Samsung Galaxy A26 5G, and one question I have asked myself is whether it is worth getting if you already have the Galaxy A24 or A25?
Design and Display
Both the Galaxy A24 & A25 feature AMOLED displays, but only the A25 introduced a higher refresh rate of 120Hz.
The Galaxy A26 5G: Keeps the 120Hz Super AMOLED screen, with slimmer bezels and improved brightness for better outdoor visibility.
If you have the A24, the upgrade to 120Hz is significant. Those on the A25 may not really want to upgrade if the display is their main attraction, as they already have a good display.
Performance and Software
The Galaxy A24 is powered by the Mediatek Helio G99 processor, which is perfect for casual use. This is paired with 4,6 or 8GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage space
The Galaxy A25 on the other hand, has an Exynos 1280 processor that is quite capable of multitasking and light gaming. It is paired with 4,6 or 8GB of RAM and up to 256GB of internal storage space.
The Galaxy A26 5G is powered by the latest midrange chip from Samsung, the Exynos 138,0 which is optimized for better AI performance and power efficiency. It has the same RAM configurations and storage options as its predecessor.
Software Updates
One of the biggest differences isthat Samsung is promising 6 years of software support for the Galaxy A26 compared to just 4 years for the A24 and the A25.
This makes it easy to recommend the A26 as you are sure to get longer software support.
Cameras
The Galaxy A24 packs a 50MP main camera which was not the best in low light conditions. This was improved in the Galaxy A25 which has better image processing and video stabilization. On the Galaxy A26 5G, you are getting an even better experience with AI-powered photography tools like Object Eraser and Scene Optimizer, making editing and capturing cleaner shots easier. This is the most affordable smartphone from Samsung to support these AI-powered featured thanks to Galaxy AI.
If you upgrade to the A26 specifically for the photography, you will notice the differences.
Battery and Charging
All three devices have 5,000 mAh batteries with fast charging support. The key difference is efficiency as the A26’s newer chip can stretch the battery life longer and manage heat better.

Should You Upgrade?
If you own the Galaxy A24, upgrading to the Galaxy A26 5G is worth it. You will get a smoother 120Hz AMOLED screen, AI-powered features and longer-lasting software support.
If you have the Galaxy A25, there are not that many differences to make the upgrade worth it. This is unless you want the AI features and extended updates.
