Absa Bank has unveiled a three-month promotion dubbed “Play Your Cards Right,” which rewards everyday debit and credit card usage with some substantial prizes.

Whether you’re swiping your card at the supermarket or checking out online, every transaction counts as an automatic entry. Absa’s Head of Cards Payments, Linda Kimani, framed the move as part of the bank’s broader digital payments strategy.

“We built this campaign on the foundation that Absa Bank continues to innovate around our customers’ needs and lifestyles and that we remain a Bank that is customer-first, digitally led and attuned to the evolving needs of every customer,” she said during the launch.

    What’s on Offer?

Here’s how the rewards stack up:

    • Campaign duration – 3 months
    • Eligibility – Existing and new Absa debit and credit card holders
    • How to enter – Simply swipe, tap, or shop online with your Absa card
    • Weekly prizes – 3 winners of Ksh. 100,000 each
    • Monthly prize – 1 grand winner of Ksh. 1 million (per month)
    • Payment methods included – Physical card swipes, contactless taps, online purchases

Kenya is already a mobile money powerhouse thanks to M-Pesa, but card usage hasn’t always been as sticky. Many customers still associate cards with ATM withdrawals rather than everyday payments. This is what Absa hopes to change with this campaign.
