NTT DATA has announced the appointment of Jafar Kuruniyan as its new Chief Financial Officer (CFO) for the Middle East and Africa (MEA) region. He succeeds Barry Curtin, who is stepping down after 16 years with the NTT Group, including 12 years as MEA CFO.
Kuruniyan has been with NTT DATA since 2009 and brings over a decade of financial leadership experience within the company. He previously served as Vice President of Finance for the Middle East for five years. He has an MBA from Mahatma Gandhi University and a Certified Management Accountant (CMA) credential from the Institute of Management Accountants in the United States.
According to Alan Turnley-Jones, CEO of NTT DATA MEA, Kuruniyan’s promotion reflects both continuity and strategic vision. “Jafar’s appointment reflects our confidence in his ability to build on Barry’s legacy and continue strengthening our financial governance and strategic growth across the region,” he said in a company statement.
A legacy of financial leadership
Curtin departs after a long tenure marked by financial stewardship and governance. He played a central role in shaping NTT DATA’s operations in the MEA region having supported four successive CEOs. Beyond his role as CFO, he served on multiple company boards and chaired the Employee Empowerment Trust, where he contributed to succession planning and talent development.
“It has been an incredible privilege to be part of NTT DATA’s journey over the past 16 years,” Curtin said. “I am so proud of what we have achieved together and remain invested in the company’s continued success.” He will remain with NTT DATA during a transitional period to ensure a smooth handover.
Kuruniyan will be based in Dubai and will oversee operations in one of the most dynamic IT services markets globally.
