The initiative was unveiled on August 4, 2025 and will be operated by ALX Ventures. NBA Africa also confirmed ServiceNow as an official partner for this year’s cohort.

Applications are open from August 4 through August 29 at tripledoubleaccelerator.nba.com. After the deadline, submissions will be narrowed down to the top 10 startups, which will enter a 10-week mentorship program.

Participants will receive guidance from mentors drawn from NBA Africa, ServiceNow and ALX leadership. Mentorship will focus on three key areas: product development, Business growth, and Go-to-market strategy.

The program will conclude with a Demo Day in December 2025. This is where the finalists will pitch to international industry leaders and the top five startups will receive financial support and continued mentorship.

The 2024 inaugural edition of the Triple-Double Accelerator attracted more than 700 applications from across Africa. Ten startups were shortlisted and presented their products at the NBA headquarters in New York City.

The four winners were selected for financial support and mentorship are:

  • Festival Coins (Nigeria) – A blockchain-powered ticketing platform for events.
  • Salubata (Nigeria) – A sustainable footwear company making modular shoes from plastic waste.
  • HustleSasa (Kenya) – A platform helping creators monetize and manage their businesses.
  • UBR VR (Egypt) – A virtual reality company developing immersive sports and entertainment experiences.

Speaking at the launch, NBA Africa CEO Clare Akamanzi emphasized the potential of African founders:

“Last year’s inaugural Triple-Double Accelerator program showed how much talent, passion and creativity there is among African entrepreneurs who are shaping the future of the continent’s rapidly growing sport and entertainment industries.”

Sports and creative industries are major contributors to Africa’s economy. PwC estimates Africa’s sports and entertainment market will grow steadily through 2030, driven by digital platforms, content creation, and youth engagement. Startups building tools for fan engagement, ticketing, athlete management, and creative monetization stand to benefit from programs like Triple-Double.
