Itana, Africa’s first Digital Special Economic Zone, has announced the launch of its Digital Residency Launchpad, a curated programme designed to connect founders, business owners, and diaspora professionals to strategic opportunities across the continent. Applications are now open.

The initiative is targeting Africa-based entrepreneurs and aims to expand across borders, and diaspora professionals seeking to re-engage with the continent through investment and business ventures. Successful applicants will gain access to a private community, regulatory guidance, and operational support tailored for scaling in African markets.

“The Digital Residency Launchpad is designed for builders and investors who want more than just a one-off networking event,” said Mayowa Olugbile, CEO at Itana. “It’s a community-powered experience offering the practical resources entrepreneurs need in order to thrive.”

Through its status as a Digital Special Economic Zone, Itana offers members business-friendly incentives and a simplified operational environment. This includes:

Africa’s startup ecosystem attracted over $3 billion in funding in 2024 despite global VC slowdowns. This is according to Partech Africa who listed Lagos, Nairobi, Cape Town, and Cairo as the continent’s primary hubs.

Programmes like Itana’s Launchpad are responding to a market need for cross-border enablement. Many African founders find it difficult when they want to expand beyond their home markets. This is due to many reasons with some of them being different regulatory requirements, limited networks and funding constraints.

Impact on Startups and Investors

This initiative could shorten go-to-market timelines for startups by streamlining incorporation and compliance. At the same time, it can help connect founders directly to partners and investors. It provides a structured re-entry pathway for diaspora investors into Africa’s high-growth sectors such fintech, logistics, healthtech, and renewable energy.

Application Process

Interested participants can apply via Itana’s official portal here. The application is open to founders, established entrepreneurs, operators, and investors with demonstrable interest in African markets.
