Absa Bank Kenya has reported a profit after tax of KSh 11.7 billion for the six months ending June 30, 2025. This is up 9% year-on-year as its return on equity standing at 26.5%.

CEO Abdi Mohamed says the growth is due to “disciplined execution, prudent risk management, and relevance of our growth strategy,” noting that the bank is balancing traditional banking services with newer, emerging revenue streams.

    Key Numbers at a Glance

    • Profit after tax: KSh 11.7B (up 9%)
    • Total revenue: KSh 31.5B (down 1.2%)
    • Net interest income: KSh 22.3B (down 2.9%)
    • Non-interest income: KSh 9.1B (up 3.3%)
    • Customer deposits: KSh 361B (up 2.3%)
    • Loans & advances: KSh 305B (down 3.6%)
    • Total assets: KSh 532B (up 10.4%)
    • Cost-to-income ratio: 36% (improved)

    How Absa Is Winning

    1. Diversified income streams – While interest income dropped due to lower lending rates, fees, commissions, forex services, and bancassurance stepped up.
    2. Digital transformation – 94% of transactions are now through alternative channels, and 71% of customer processes are digitised.
    3. Capital strength – Capital adequacy at 20.5% and liquidity at 45.5%. This is well above regulatory minimums.
    4. Strategic partnerships – Global lobal trade missions and product launches such as the Absa Business Credit Card and expanded Shariah-compliant banking.
    5. Sustainability focus – KSh 20B channelled into sustainable finance, plus recognition as a Top Employer for the fourth year running.

    Beyond the Numbers

Absa’s asset management arm now oversees over KSh 30 billion. This makes it third in the Kenyan market. Absa also led major transactions in the capital markets, including a KSh 2.5 billion rights issue and the dual listing of the Satrix MSCI World ETF.

    Interim Dividend

The board approved an interim dividend of KSh 0.20 per share, payable mid-October 2025 to shareholders on record as of September 19.
