Airtel Africa Foundation has officially launched its ‘Tech For Her’ Program, a pan-African digital skills initiative aimed at equipping young women in Kenya, Uganda, and Zambia with the tools to thrive in the global tech industry.

The five-week intensive online training program will cover in-demand digital fields such as Linux Administration, Cybersecurity, and Data Analytics. The training is being delivered in partnership with Tertiary DNS, and targets women with a minimum of a national diploma or equivalent in science and technology disciplines.

The program is open to working professionals and non-working women alike, with a flexible schedule. It offers weekend classes for the employed and weekday sessions for others. Upon completion of the course, participants will continue to receive 12 months of post-training support, and the top performers, those scoring 90% and above, will qualify for internships at Airtel Africa and mentorship from seasoned tech leaders.

“Africa’s digital revolution cannot reach its full potential without gender equity,” said Dr. Segun Ogunsanya, Chair of Airtel Africa Foundation. “The Tech For Her program helps level the playing field by equipping women with industry-relevant skills and real opportunities in high-growth tech roles.”

According to UNESCO, women make up only 30% of tech professionals in sub-Saharan Africa and hold as little as 2–8% of software development roles. Airtel Africa Foundation is aiming to directly address this gender gap by reserving 30% of participant slots for women from rural and underserved communities, and 40% for those from low-income households.

Annika Poutiainen, a committee member at the foundation, emphasized the long-term vision:

“We’re not just training women—we’re building a pipeline of female tech leaders who can shape Africa’s digital economy.”
