In celebration of International Artificial Intelligence Appreciation Day, This is Digital, a visionary organization committed to closing the AI literacy gap in Africa, hosted an AI Appreciation Breakfast event themed “The Age of AI: A Reality Check”. The event was held on Wednesday, July 16, 2025, at The Social House, Nairobi.
The breakfast convenedd an intimate group of thought leaders, innovators, and professionals to reflect on how artificial intelligence is reshaping lives, industries, and societies across Africa. Attendees experienced a rich program featuring keynote speaker Moses Kemibaro from Dotsavvy, and contributions from notable voices such as Susan Makau (International School of Advertising), Hon Ndindi Nyoro, MP Kiharu Constituency and Roseline Njogu, Principal Secretary, State Department for Diaspora affairs. Other panel members were:
- Eugene Mbugua – Founder, D&R Studios (Unpacking entertainment and AI)
- Caroline Kendi – Founder, CK Marketing (Unpacking Marketing and AI)
- Dr. Catherine Gathu – Head of Family Medicine, Aga Khan University (Unpacking Medicine and AI)
- Philip Muigai – DigitalLearning Developer, Cloud Factory. (Unpacking HR and AI)
Following the breakfast, This is Digital will launch its AI Literacy Program on August 5, 2025, aimed at equipping professionals, entrepreneurs, students, and educators with practical and ethical AI knowledge. The program is structured as follows:
- Online AI Bootcamp: August 5th, 12th, 19th, and 26th (Tuesdays), 7:00 PM – 9:00 PM
- In-Person AI Bootcamp: August 27th, August 28th and August 29th, 2025
- Ongoing Monthly Cohorts: New sessions every month, both online and in-person
