Pesapal has partnered with RACK, a local startup building tailored software for African SMEs. The two are rolling out a fully-integrated Point of Sale (POS) solution designed to digitize sales, payments, inventory, tax compliance, and customer management. This is all done in a single plug-and-play device.

This solution will be available to businesses in Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania. It offers a much-needed alternative to the outdated, manual systems still widely used by small businesses in the region.

“This partnership is about powering Africa’s next generation of business leaders and ensuring no entrepreneur is left behind,” Agosta Liko, CEO of Pesapal.

There are more than 30 million SMEs in East Africa. Most of these operate informally. They rely on handwritten receipts, manual inventory logs, and disconnected payment systems. This not only slows down operations but also keeps these businesses invisible to financial institutions. It inturn locks them out of credit and other forms of growth capital.

According to the IFC’s SME Finance Forum, only about 20–25% of SMEs in sub-Saharan Africa have access to formal credit largely due to the lack of digital records.

What the RACK POS System Offers

Here is what is bundled into the offering:

    • All-in-One Solution: Combines sales, inventory management, payments, and customer engagement tools in a single, easy-to-use platform.
    • E-commerce Ready: Syncs physical stores with online shops, enabling real-time inventory and sales updates.
    • Flexible & Accessible: Available on both web and Android, allowing business owners to manage operations from anywhere.
    • Smart Payments: Integrated with Pesapal, supporting mobile money, card payments, and cash with instant reconciliation.
    • Multi-Branch Support: Ideal for growing businesses with multiple locations—centralized control and reporting across all outlets.
    • Customer-Centric: Includes CRM, loyalty programs, and automated SMS/email communication to boost repeat business.
    • Real-time visibility: Access data dashboards to see what is selling, what needs restocking, and how staff are performing.
    • Growth-readiness: With cleaner records and verified transactions, SMEs can now build credit profiles unlocking access to working capital and expansion financing.

“Our cloud-enabled Point of Sale solution is designed to make daily business easier for SMEs. By bringing together payments, inventory management, compliance, and performance tracking in one simple system, we are helping business owners move away from manual paperwork and disconnected tools.,” said Ferdinand Eloto, Co-founder and Team Lead at RACK.
