Teraco has officially launched its latest data centre facility, JB5. The new facility is located within the Isando campus in Johannesburg and is the eighth data centre developed by the company.
With the completion of JB5, the Isando campus now boasts a total critical power capacity of 70MW. This makes it one of the largest interconnection hubs on the continent.
JB5 covers 55,000 square metres and is specifically built to meet global hyperscale standards. It houses twelve 1,000 sqm data halls and the entire facility was constructed in a single phase.
Sustainability remains a central focus for Teraco. JB5 uses a closed-loop chilled water system. This uses 100% free air cooling and enables zero water usage for ongoing cooling operations. This is innovative, especially in areas where water conservation is critical.
The data centre is backed by 120 MVA of utility power. This is to ensure it meets the demanding needs of hyperscale clients, including cloud service providers and large enterprises expanding across Africa.
