The Government of Kenya has partnered with Veridos to roll out a new generation of ePassports. This will hopefully speed up issuance times and incorporate advanced security features and design elements that reflect Kenya’s cultural identity.
“We wanted a passport that tells the Kenyan story, one that is inclusive, secure, and built to last,” said Evelyn Chegulet, Director General at the Directorate of Immigration Services.
The new ePassport will include full-color photos printed directly onto polycarbonate. This detail alone significantly increases the document’s durability and security. The design will celebrate the country’s economy, heritage, wildlife, and history.
“It’s not just about security. It’s about giving Kenyans a document they can be proud to carry,” said Mohammad Mousa, Director of Business Development for the Middle East and Africa at Veridos.
Veridos, a joint venture between Bundesdruckerei and Giesecke+Devrient, is known for delivering cutting-edge identity systems around the world.
Security-wise, the new passport comes equipped with some of the most advanced features in the world:
- CLIP ID – A high-resolution, full-color portrait that is hard to replicate.
- Spectre ID – A dynamic feature that shows matching embossed elements when the page is tilted.
- MAGIC ID – Creates subtle and animated effects throughout the passport pages. This makes forgery nearly impossible.
These technologies help protect both citizens and national borders from identity fraud. At the same time, it ensures smooth immigration experiences globally.
Veridos will work closely with Kenyan authorities over the next few years to roll out these upgrades.
